I went to the circus they other day. When you walk around Manhattan, it just doesn't seem to have room for a circus but take a peek behind Lincoln Center and there it is - The Big Apple Circus!
The circus does a lot for children. The New York School for Circus Arts works with the NYC Public School system and ArtsConnection and established the Young Talent Circus Training Program which teaches children circus arts.
The circus also has a clown care unit, a group of professional clowns, trained in hospital procedures and circus skills, make rounds as "clown doctors" performing for patients.
They also created Circus of the Senses which is a circus performance specifically for children with special needs.
My grandma is always calling me a clown because I love goofy comedy. I guess Mayor Bloomberg agrees with her because he made November 1st (my birthday) "Big Apple Circus Day"!
